15 June 2020 – The Harbour School receives Planning
The Harbour School, a new free SEN school in Dorset has just received planning permission.
This new school has been designed by ArchitecturePLB with UBU providing the landscape design and construction will be carried out by Galliford Try.
Situated on the former Bovington Middle School site in Cologne Road, The Harbour School will accommodate up to 160 pupils aged 10-19, with two cohorts – Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Typically these two groups of students do not mix well therefore will inhabit two separate parts of the school with access to shared facilities. To cater to each group’s distinct learning requirements, the design is required to create separate entrances, teaching areas and routes for the pupils to move around the school. The shared areas will need to be timetabled accordingly to effectively manage the two groups.
Dorset County Council has significant demand for additional special school places and The Harbour School will provide an opportunity for children in Bovington and surrounding areas to access education closer to home.
