Ubu recently completed the landscape proposals for a planning application to convert a former council building in Wembley into a mixed-use development, working with architects Maccreanor Lavington.

Occupying a prominent location in the townscape, proposals for the 7, 21 and 26 storey buildings include flexible retail/office and community space at ground level and 239 residential flats on the upper levels. A new public square, enhanced existing public realm and two roof terraces are prominent features within the scheme.

Delivering usable and engaging space, the clean and simple public square sympathetically marries the curtilage of the building with the existing footway and maintains clear access for cyclists, visitors and residents. A community centre breakout space defined by informal seating and planters actively encourages recreational use and social interaction. Planters accommodating a pronounced level change across the square integrate seating to the public footway, promoting engagement with the street.

Roof terraces provide private play space and a level 21 residents’ garden with varying aspects and degrees of enclosure/exposure, affording striking views across Wembley and Greater London.
