11 June 2021 – Marjorie McClure School receives planning approval
Planning application has now been approved by Bromley Council for Marjorie McClure School, an all age special school for children with a wide range of additional needs. Ubu have provided the landscape design for this new school in Chislehurst, working alongside architects Haverstock and construction group Galliford Try.
The Department for Education and the London Borough of Bromley selected an area of open land adjacent to Edgebury Primary School.
The new school will be a single storey building, with a central lightwell . Some classrooms will have their own outdoor space, though not on the side of the building facing Edgebury to ensure that there is no disturbance to local residents.
The building will contain a hydrotherapy pool, large multi-purpose hall, two sensory rooms, a rebound therapy room, soft play room and an array of specialist classrooms. Outside spaces will include courtyards, outside classroom areas for primary, a pond, wildflower meadow, forest school area with an outdoor classroom, a MUGA and 7-a-side football pitch.
The school’s capacity is 100 pupils and it is not proposed to increase this capacity.
