11 November 2020 – Redesign of town pump ‘Cornhill’ site, Dorchester town centre

Proposals have been put in place which will see the historic Cornhill site, known locally as the town pump area, redeveloped with a new public seating area. The redesign could also include water features, sculptures and lighting to create atmosphere and a place for people to meet during the day and evening.

This redevelopment project has been designed by Dorset based design studio, Feria Urbanism, with Ubu designed landscape and lighting designed by Michael Grubb Studio.

As the historic part of the town, Cornhill will hopefully act as a social hub and a natural link to cultural venues to the north of High West and High East Streets.

Feria Urbanism have been looking to get engagement from the community on the design and last month they did an experiment in the town centre using big foam blocks which resulted in positive feedback from the locals!

Residents are also being invited to view an interactive 3-D model in the Dorchester City Town Council’s office until 18 November.

The development is expected to start next year in 2021.
