15 December 2021 – Marjorie McClure School starts on site
After recently starting on site, work is now progressing well at Marjorie McClure School, the all age special school for children in Chislehurst.
Planting will be starting to the eastern side in January and the gabion wall is taking shape, which will create an oak tree storytelling area for the school.
Ubu have provided the landscape design for this new school, working alongside architects Haverstock and construction group Galliford Try.
The new school will be a single storey building, with a central lightwell . Some classrooms will have their own outdoor space, though not on the side of the building facing Edgebury to ensure that there is no disturbance to local residents.
The building will contain a hydrotherapy pool, large multi-purpose hall, two sensory rooms, a rebound therapy room, soft play room and an array of specialist classrooms. Outside spaces will include courtyards, outside classroom areas for primary, a pond, wildflower meadow, forest school area with an outdoor classroom, a MUGA and 7-a-side football pitch.
The school’s capacity is 100 pupils and it is not proposed to increase this capacity.
Planning application was approved by Bromley Council in June 2021 and they are aiming to complete on site at the end of 2022.
