16 June 2021 – Work begins at the new Mary Hare Primary School

Work has recently started onsite at the new Mary Hare Primary School by Beard Construction.

Ubu were appointed in 2017 to partner Architecture PLB on the development of this new primary school for Mary Hare school for the deaf in Newbury, Berkshire, with planning permission being granted in August 2018.

The landscape led scheme set within the estate parkland, occupies a sensitive location within the North Wessex Downs AONB. Ubu undertook a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment in order to identify and mitigate the effects of the development on the landscape, which informed our comprehensive landscape strategy for the site.  Ubu also provided Arboricultural and Ecological services for the development.

Using appropriate planting design buildings will sensitively blend into the landscape and benefit from their unique position in the North Wessex Hills, and classrooms will open out onto external learning terraces.

The building work will take more than a year to complete and they hope to be welcoming the children into their new school in Autumn 2022.
