21 September 2021 – SLG Convent of the Incarnation completed!
The sisters have now started moving back in to the newly completed Convent of the Incarnation in East Oxford!
Ubu Design were appointed by the Sisters of the Love of God to develop landscape proposals as part of the redevelopment of the existing convent. Working closely with MEB Design and the wider project team, Ubu produced a landscape strategy to respond to the needs of the convent community while respecting the existing character and setting of the convent grounds.
Proposals were developed through a series of design workshops to provide a scheme that responded to the needs of the sisters and addressed concerns over future access as well as creating an attractive sequence of external spaces reflecting the sustainable ethos of the community.
As part of the redevelopment and refurbishments a new glazed Cloister was incorporated, providing a transparent walk way and connection between the buildings and meaning the landscaping and gardens can still be appreciated from inside. This gave enclosure to the new garden and provided a tranquil space for quiet contemplation. Two new cloister quads were formed and included raised planter beds framing views of the newly redecorated Waterhouse Chapel.
The newly refurbished chapel has been set in new landscaping which can now be viewed from all angles on the approach from Fairacres Road and can be appreciated by all visitors to the Chapel.
