30 April 2021 – Rolling out the green carpet!

The planters are now in and creating a green and colourful welcome for three London Hotels!

Ubu were appointed by Better Bankside last year after winning their ‘rolling out the green carpet’ competition to create a ‘green carpet’ outside the entrances of the Ibis Styles, Novotel London Bridge – both on Southwark Bridge Road and the Mercure London Bridge that fronts on to Southwark Street.  All three hotels are part of the Accor Group of hotels.

The aim of the project was to increase urban greening within Bankside and to improve the local environment in a creative and playful way.

The idea of the ‘green carpet’ was used as the starting point for the design, using vertical planters providing a frame for climbing plants.

The planter itself was inspired by the individual spools of thread which weave together into patterned form or roll of carpet.

Ubu also worked on delivering the #Better Air Letters for Better Bankside after winning a mini design competition in 2019.
