31 August 2022- Brighton Girls School now complete.
Brighton Girls School has been undergoing a multi-million pound transformation after planning was approved in October 2021, and is now complete! The school previously operated from two sites, with the prep school in Radinden Manor Road, Hove but the new site now brings all its pupils, from reception through to sixth form, together in its Montpelier Road site.
The school, formerly known as Brighton and Hove High School for Girls is in the Montpelier and Clifton Hill Conservation Area and the site included two grade II listed buildings and a grade II listed wall.
Ubu were appointed by Neilcott Construction Ltd to provide the landscape for this project, working with Walters & Cohen Architects to transform the landscaping at the front of the Temple and the school’s green spaces. A new wooded play area has been created outside, as well as an edible garden and allotment, with landscaping and cycle parking.
Plans included a dedicated early years playground and a tree-lined lawn at the centre of the site where the younger pupils will have a space to play, discover and to learn.
The new school building has also been reworked to become a community hub including a learning space for pupils, a wellbeing café and flexible working space for local entrepreneurs to use. By mixing classroom and community, the school hopes the pupils will be able to learn about opportunities from local businesses and local entrepreneurs can hear the ideas of the next generation.
