4 March 2026 – Planning secured for Woodside Primary School
UBU Design Ltd is pleased to see planning approval secured for the redevelopment of Woodside Primary School in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire. The project will replace the existing school buildings, which are currently in poor condition, with a new purpose-built primary school designed to support modern teaching and learning.
The proposals include three single-storey buildings connected by a covered walkway, alongside new play areas, outdoor learning spaces and enhanced landscaping across the site. The new school will maintain the current provision of a one-form entry primary school for 210 pupils aged 5–11, along with a 30-place nursery, while delivering modern facilities that support both education and wellbeing.
UBU provided the landscape design for the scheme, creating a series of outdoor learning, play and social spaces that place nature and wellbeing at the heart of the school environment. The design celebrates existing site features including the forest school area and allotment gardens, using them as inspiration for a wider outdoor educational landscape that encourages exploration, creativity and collaboration.
The landscape proposals support the principles of GenZero design, integrating sustainability and nature-based solutions to create a nurturing and inspiring setting for pupils and staff. The design also retains many of the mature trees on the site while introducing biodiverse planting and sustainable drainage features that contribute to the long-term environmental performance of the school grounds.
Construction is expected to complete in 2026, with temporary accommodation provided during the build to ensure that education can continue uninterrupted. We forward to seeing the project progress and the positive impact it will have for the school and the wider community.
