Bluebell Road, Norwich
Ubu were commissioned to undertake a Masterplan and LVIA for a 5.5 hectare site in the Yare Valley on the edge of Norwich. The broader site is contained by the River Yare with water meadows, wildflower meadows and areas of specific conservation interest. The masterplan included primary and secondary access through the site and the broader landscape up to the Yare Valley walk, also incorporating areas for recreation, seating and cycle ways.
The masterplan was then broken down into phases, with Ubu working on a 3 block development with McCarthy and Stone. The development caters for affordable living, retirement living and assisted living for over 55’s, fulfilling a need for more accommodation for this age group in the area. The landscape approach was very much driven by the natural environment and sensitivity to the broader natural landscape and focused predominately on good connectivity between the new development and the natural landscape on the wider site. The areas immediately next to the development were designed with a mix of informal and formal landscaping, through both private and communal gardens, creating a strong and distinctive sense of community. The broader masterplan will be implemented over the next few years.
