Jubilee Plaza

Ubu was commissioned by the University of Southampton to undertake the design of a new piazza on the site of the redundant George Moore building. Adjacent to the newly constructed Life Sciences building (LSB), the site occupies a pivotal location in the mosaic of University buildings and open space forming the Highfield Campus. The scheme improves pedestrian access, forms an attractive route between the LSB and Library Square and provides a series of spaces to gather, sit and relax. A locally cohesive plant palette integrates and strengthens visual connectivity between the new developments. The proposals employ restrained material choices to complement the contemporary materials of the LSB and the more historic palette of Library Square.

This project features on Landezine as an example of best international contemporary landscape architecture.
