Tarling Road Community Hub

UBU design working with Graham Construction and Lawray Architects have delivered a new Community Centre in East Finchley, North London. The Tarling Road Community Hub will replace the Old Barn community centre and create a brand-new facility, which will provide a shared space for local community groups.

The new centre will be home to a number of local community groups, including the Somali Bravanese Welfare Association (SBWA).

The Tarling Road Community Hub was developed in close consultation with residents. This included two public exhibitions to showcase the design of the building and the spaces to be provided; with over 100 people attending.

The new facility at Tarling Road provides a permanent new home for local community groups with 980 square metres of functional space, as well as a learning area, large meeting hall and café with seating. Electric charging points have also been integrated into the car park.

Ubu design provided detailed information for external facilities including table tennis, growing beds, herb garden, seating areas and a covered soft play for a new nursery facility. The landscape was developed through a detailed process of consultation with the local authority and the wider community to deliver an external environment that responded to their needs and aspirations.

The new facility was officially opened in October 2018.
