The Wall of Answered Prayer
The Wall of Answered Prayer is a visionary project to create a new dramatic and inspirational landmark in the UK, a piece of public art of national significance. It will be constructed of a million bricks, each representing an answered prayer.
“The Wall” ran an international design competition in association with the Royal Institute of British Architects. 5 final designs were selected from 133 entries and the winning design will be announced in the Houses of Parliament on 21st May 2019.
The shortlisted team lead by Snug Architects and supported by ourselves, Rambol and Ridge consultancy have been working to deliver a stage 2 design solution. We have been refining the design to provide a sympathetic landscape that works with and compliments the structure.
The concept is for a wall made of 1 million bricks, donated from across the regions, forming a single continuous surface without end. This has been achieved through the use of a Möbius strip, creating a continuous loop of wall.
The procession route leading to the wall allows glimpsed views drawing visitors to the car park and entrance. As the visitor is drawn through the entrance and into the visitor centre you glimpse the magnitude of the 40m arch through to the glazed wall enabling views out through the arch into the broader landscape.
The landscape wraps around the wall allowing it to rise majestically into the sky and enabling people to move and explore along a number of paths delivering you to viewing points which will provide a views from a variety heights and locations.
The landscape provides a space for reflection and contemplation of the magnitude, symbolism and power of this unique structure. The sculptural landscape is designed to harmonise with the broader space, complementing the structure but never competing.
