12 May 2023 – Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt gets the green light for new Arts University Bournemouth studio

The designs for a proposed replacement of work studios at Arts University Bournemouth.were submitted for planning back in January and have just been approved by councillors.

The 1,800mfacility will replace the university’s North Light Studio and will keep the name of the block it is replacing.

Ubu will be providing the landscape design for this new facility, working alongside architects Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt.

The new design will include workshops for sculpture and traditional printing as well as flexible, open-studio space, staff offices and toilets across two floors.  The design will also feature a sawtooth roof running the length of the replacement building.

The building’s structure and materials have been selected on the basis of their low embodied carbon content and the ability to reuse or recycle.

The new studio would deliver ‘possible efficiency savings’ thanks to natural daylighting, passive ventilation, renewable energy, air tightness and insulation.

Construction is expected to begin in January 2024 with completion by the autumn.
