8 August 2021 – Deer Park is now complete!
Work has now completed on the site of this new secondary school in Hedge End near Southampton and it’s looking great!
Ubu design were appointed by Kier to provide the landscape design for this new Education and Skills Funding Agency (EFSA) funded school, working closely with the architects, Stride Treglown and the engineer’s Crouch Waterfall.
Hampshire County Council worked in partnership with Wildern Academy Trust and the EFSA to provide a new seven-form entry secondary school.
Deer Park School will include a ‘super block’ main building creating a modern learning environment for pupils and staff, incorporating the required levels of safeguarding, in a highly energy efficient building. The three storey building includes a central library/learning resource centre, ICT rich classrooms, science labs, art rooms, design and technology facilities and a music and drama department. The school will also deliver a sports hall providing a range of indoor courts with associated facilities.
Our design for the external spaces delivers a considered and varied external environment providing a variety of spaces where pupils can socialise and play as well as providing an educational resource.
A range of facilities needed to be incorporated as part of the wider school facilities, including staff parking and floodlit multi-use games area (MUGA). Sports pitch provision was also a key requirement with facilities to include small and full-size football pitches, rugby pitch, cricket, hockey pitch and an athletics track. These are to be accessed via a pedestrian bridge through an area of existing woodland and designated Site of Important Nature Conservation (SINC).
As a free school, Deer Park School will be operated by the Wildern Acadamy Trust and will accommodate over 1000 pupils. The school is expected to be open in September 2021.
