Chapel Riverside

As part of our on-going work on Phase 2 of the Chapel Riverside development, Southampton, Ubu design were commission by Inland homes to deliver an Art Strategy for the wider scheme.

The strategy draws on the rich history of the site, including the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, the Cross House, and Boundary Stone; which have formed the drivers for delivering public art. The core theme of the strategy has been informed by the practices of pilgrimage and the idea of journey with these elements having historically provided a destination and given significance and meaning to the site.

The proposed public, semi-public, and private spaces that are integral to the Chapel Riverside development will primarily be experienced on foot. The public art strategy takes this simple observation as its point of departure and ties the future use of Chapel Riverside to historic journeys and pilgrimage practices that have stitched the various parts of the site together since medieval times.
